Founded by author and New York Times columnist David Brooks at the Aspen Institute, Weave: the Social Fabric Project is tackling America’s quiet crisis of disconnection. Weave supports local leaders—known as “weavers” —who are rebuilding trust and belonging in their communities, one relationship at a time.
“Amid all the problems facing our nation there are still people all across this country who are quietly weaving a new social fabric.”
–Frederick J. Riley, Executive Director
Key Outcomes
- 1,000+ neighbors gathered at Weave events to share ideas, challenges, and dreams for stronger communities
- 130 Weaver Awards funded local projects—from gardens and youth arts programs to addiction recovery and neighborhood celebrations
- $22 million grant from Lilly Endowment to expand Weave’s model to 75 communities nationwide
- $225,000 in seed funding for each new Community Host to launch local weaving initiatives
Weave is proving that when we invest in relationships, we strengthen the fabric of our democracy. Together, neighbors are transforming isolation into connection—and trust into action.
