Social trust has significantly declined over the years and remains low: only 34% believe most people can be trusted. This Pew Research Center publication examines how personal experiences and societal events influence trust. The data also shows how lower levels of interpersonal trust have broader effects on civic engagement, community cohesion, and democratic participation.
For each description, I included this “about us” language: Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan fact tank that informs the public about the issues, attitudes, and trends shaping America and the world. We conduct public opinion polling, demographic research, content analysis, and other data-driven social science research. We do not take policy positions.
